  • Is your business/career heading in a different direction that you were initially planning?
Rabbit Digs is very new so is still in that initial planning phase but I launched it with two goals in mind which were for people to like my work and for it to become successful enough for me to be able to devote all my time to it. So far I have been surprised and humbled at the amount of positive feedback I have had so hopefully I am on the right track to fulfilling my dream.
  • What are your favourite trends at the moment, and how do they suit your product?
Cacti, Marble,Typography and Watercolour are my favourite current trends and I have plans to incorporate all of them in one way or another in future prints.
  • What do you enjoy doing most in your business? And least?
The thing I enjoy the most, by far, is turning my ideas into actual creations. I find drawing very therapeutic so am always happiest just doodling away. The thing I like least is not having enough time to dedicate to that, as Rabbit Digs is such a new business I am not yet able to dedicate all of my time to it but my dream is to build the business enough for me to call it my full time job.

  • What brand do you admire or who would like to work with?
I absolutely love Arlo & Co who create some incredibly beautiful things made out of wood or stone. I have a few of their products but would buy every single one of them if I could! Like many small Instagram based businesses they are passionate about both their work and their followers and that really shows in the products as well as the customer service. It would be a dream to collaborate with them in some way.
  • What does your work space look like now, and what would you love to add to the work space if you could?
I am incredibly organised and need a clean and tidy workspace to feel comfortably in so it is very minimal and white! Having said that I have added some pretty things made by other small local businesses that inspire me, a couple of photos to make me smile, a nice candle, and a succulent because who doesn’t love a succulent? If I could add something it would be my own high quality printer but I’ve just started out so for now I go to the local printers to fulfil my orders.

“Meet the Creatives” – Jessi Deakin, Dreamcatcher Designs

jessi dreamcatcher

We love Jessi’s amazing handmade macracme.

We asked her a few questions about her designs & business:

  • What is a typical day at work like?

Fun, creative and relaxed.  Making and creating new and unique pieces every day for all sorts of customers, events and projects.  No two days are ever the same!

  • If you weren’t doing this for a living, what would you most likely be doing?

I would most likely still be working full-time in the fashion industry or as a primary school teacher since I studied teaching at Uni.

  • Is your business heading in a different direction that you were initially planning?

Yes! I initially started the business purely as an interior styling service. People began to notice my macramé designs that I was making for myself and wanted to buy them off me, so I set up a store on Etsy and it just grew from there.

  • What are your favourite trends at the moment and how do they suit your product?

I love the metallic homewares trend… I use a lot of copper and brass piping in my designs which really brings the retro art of macramé into the modern day interior.  There is a massive focus on bohemian fashion and homewares right now too, which is right on point with my designs.

  • Where do you get the best business ideas and inspiration from?

I find inspiration just about everywhere!  Whether I’m out in nature, driving in the car, or flicking through a home magazine on the couch.  There is always something amongst my surrounds that inspires a new idea or design – and it usually comes to me when I’m most relaxed and not distracted by technology eg. in the shower or when I’m about to fall asleep!

  • What do you enjoy doing most in your business?

I mostly enjoy designing and creating new pieces and when people love them as much as I do, It’s pretty rewarding!

  • And least favourite thing?

I am not a huge fan of all the paperwork and admin involved in running your own business!

  • What brand do you admire or who would like to work with?

Spell Designs (Byron Bay) has always been a huge inspiration of mine and a top goal of mine to collaborate with since I first started the business.  I’m proud to say that that dream came true just days ago!  I’m still pinching myself!  Stay tuned for more on that!  Free People is my colab goal on an international scale.

  • What does your workspace look like now, and what would you love to add to the workshop if you could?

It is a jungle of different coloured ropes, metallic hardware and feathers!  I would love to add loads of hooks from the walls and ceiling to work off but I am renting at the moment so that is a little restricting.
