With a very limited budget, common plywood can become a designer item within minutes! Grab your nail gun and saw and you will transform your room like a pro. Today you will be surprised and inspired! We also have a lot of tips for tenants too.
Yes, it’s actually a waste product, but very trendy at the moment. It is super strong, but easy to work with. Plywood is made by glueing many thin layers of wood together. You get different grades and the price may differ. The more layers, the sturdier.
TIP ONE: USE AS AN ART WALL
This is the normal the size of a plywood board, but you can cut it smaller of course. Just lean it against the wall for a perfect background to display images of your children’s art work. You can even paint it a funky colour. Great for tenants! If you may, you can hang it fixed on the wall too.
TIP TWO: USE AS A HEAD BOARD
Cut it in any shape you want, and use it as a headboard. Cover with fabric or just a lick of paint. It will take you less than half an hour. That’s if you have the right saw!
TIP THREE: HIDE AN UGLY RENTAL HOME WALL
Take a few of the big boards, paint them in any colours or shapes, and place them upright against a wall. It is a great focal point behind a bed, a couch or any little corner. You can even paint a different colour on each side and turn it around occasionally to change the look of your room.
TIP FOUR: USE AS A ROOM DIVIDER
The natural raw timber look is so trendy now, that by using plywood in it’s natural form is actually very “in”. You can fix it to any bulkhead and you have an instant new room!
TIP FIVE: USE AS FOCAL FURNITURE
If you have the right tools, this one is for you. No cupboards in your rental home? Or need extra cupboard space that does not cost a fortune? Why not make this funky cupboard out of cheap old plywood? Leave it natural or painted. Even a temporary desk is possible!
TIP SIX: USE AS WALL PANELLING
So easy to apply. Just a few screws and give it a nice varnish and you can have a stunning recycled timber look!
TIP SEVEN: CREATE IT INTO ARTWORK
Cut out cute shapes or use off-cuts. If you are arty and talented, you can paint it with some lovely pictures. If you are not, like most of us, use some mod podge from your local hard ware store. Available in the craft section.
TIP EIGHT: USE IT AS A SHELVING/STORAGE UNIT
If you can drill a hole, this one is worth it! You can buy all the necessary parts at your local hardware store. Just add some wood glue and you can make this amazing shelving unit that also serves as an artwork! This project is great for rental homes too.
YES, IT CAN EVEN BE USED IN BATHROOMS!
You can certainly also use plywood in bathrooms! They even make boats out of plywood. (Not that I can…) You just need to specify to your supplier that the plywood should be appropriate for high-moisture areas. Also make sure you finish it off with the correct product. It gives a bathroom and kitchen a real warm feeling.
I bet you are now running to your hard ware store to buy plywood! Just make sure you have a good saw too. This product is so versatile, and relatively inexpensive.
Be creative! Especially if you are in a rental home.
Until next time,
